Russia's Good Neighbor Policy

In case you have forgotten, or you never knew, take a look at this you-tube video, by Geo History, explaining the relationship of Ukraine and Russia from 1991 to present. It's about 35 minutes long.

At the start of the 2022 invasion, many believed Russia would over power Ukraine very quickly. Some experts felt President Putin desired to regain the lands that Russia once owned during the reign of Peter the Great. Others considered President Putin was only trying to influence the political nature of Ukraine by ousting the current western leaning Ukrainian President and install a leader who would be confederate with Russia and hostile toward the west. They also believed that the Russian President wanted no more talk of Ukraine joining NATO. However, after two years of fighting, with many attempts for a cease fire, and hundreds of thousands of people dead, along with no significant achievements (no particular land masses gained, nor policies changed), Russia fights on.

More recently, Russia has upped the ante and despite warnings from the US, has used differing gases in their efforts to break the Ukrainians. Nevertheless, Moscow denies the claims and continues in it's strike for a strike attack approach. Despite the devastation Ukraine sustains—she is holding her own, with the help of the United States and NATO nations supplying munitions.

In 2015 a United States disgruntled postal worker flew a low-flying gyro-copter onto the White House lawn, penetrating protected airspace undetected. Would America be ready for a confrontation with Russia, or any of their proxies?

According to an article entitled, Ukraine’s Drone Swarms Are Destroying Russian Nuclear Bombers. What Happens Now?, published June 4, 2025, by The Center for Strategic and International Studies, it is suggested that the latest bombing by Ukraine could warrant Russia to accuse the west of starting aggression toward Russia through Ukraine. The report further stated, “Russia’s Nuclear Doctrine lists, 'actions by an adversary affecting elements of critically important state or military infrastructure of the Russian Federation, the disablement of which would disrupt response actions by nuclear forces' as a condition justifying the use of nuclear weapons.” The report further questions the ability of Western countries to protect their sky's, reminding readers of the 2015 event where a United States disgruntled postal worker flew a low-flying gyro-copter onto the White House lawn, penetrating protected airspace undetected. Would America be ready for a confrontation with Russia, or any of their proxies?

In more recent events, the former Russian President, and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev continues to kindle the fire between Russia and the US by flammable remarks, the latest being that, “Trump's playing the ultimatum game with Russia...He should remember 2 things:
1. Russia isn't Israel or even Iran.
2. Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don't go down the Sleepy Joe road!"

The US President's response was one that most did not expect. According to theguardian.com, “Donald Trump has said that he has deployed nuclear-capable submarines to the 'appropriate regions' in response to a threatening tweet by Russia’s former president Dmitry Medvedev, suggesting that he would be ready to launch a nuclear strike as tensions rise over the war in Ukraine.” In response, according to the Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment report, dated August 4, 2025, from the website, understandingwar.org, the Kremlin has overwhelmingly responded that President Trump would be better off to be less emotional and more rational in foreign policy: also, that the redeployment of US nuclear submarines near Russia is not a real threat to Russia.

Consequently, most of the world knows that the Russians have been far from de-escalation when it comes to saber rattling and that what the Chairman of the Security Council may convey in a tweet or over the TV airwaves come directly from the top of the Russian political chain. However, if President Putin does not say it himself, he can easily dismiss the comments as vanity talk. But, history has proven, if the communist tell you they will not do something, you can count that they already have plans to do it. It may have been a wise move for President Trump to send those submarines. Not to provoke, but perhaps to prevent a chaotic situation—just by having a US nuclear presence in the region.

Another interesting development, on July 30, 2025, Russia experienced a magnitude 8.8 earthquake on it's eastern coastline. The earthquake was responsible for causing some damage to Russia's Rybachiy submarine base on the Kamchatka Peninsula. This earthquake was also responsible for the eruption of (2) Volcanoes on Russian territory. The Krasheninnikov volcano sent ash 3.7 miles into the sky.

All of these events are of utmost importance for those who study Bible Prophecy. Why is Russia important to Bible prophecy? The book of Daniel speaks of the king of the north who comes into Israel like a whirlwind-ref Dan 11:40-45. The time of this invasion is also specified, at the time of the end- ref Dan 11:40. Many prophecy students believe this refers to the time of the Tribulation. If you study your Bible, you may wonder why prophecy students think verses 40-45 deal with Russia when the verses before hand describe the Anti-Christ? It has to do with verse 41, He shall enter also into the glorious land (Israel), and many countries shall be overthrown (or fall): but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. Edom and Moab are in modern day Jordan. Ammon is the capital of Jordan. The text reads, but these shall escape out of his hand... We know that once the Anti-Christ comes forth he shall succeed at whatever he does during the time allotted to him, and that none shall escape from under his control-ref Dan 8:24. For this reason, we understand the king of the north to be Gog, the leader of Magog. Verses 40-45 also fit together with Ezk 38:2, 4, 15, with what some consider to be the Russian invasion of Israel. The earthquakes are interesting as well. The disciples asked Jesus, “...what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”   Jesus answered, “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.”-ref Mt 24:3, 4, 7.

You may wonder what kind of friendship Russia has with Israel? At present, not good. Back in early 2000, Russia was very friendly toward the Jewish state. Over the next two decades, Prime Minister Netanyahu was considered a friend to President Putin, at least making it look that way. Actually, President Putins' association with the enemies of Israel have been longstanding, but, were tempered down over the last decade—being careful to navigate good relations with Israel. However, once Russia invaded Ukraine, Russia needed to depend on Iran for its drones—a huge enemy of the Jews. Then after the October 7 attack in Israel, according to a bookings.edu article, “the Kremlin has heaped criticism on Netanyahu and Israel”. Russia has also “publicly rekindled its relationships with the representatives of Hamas and other Palestinian constituencies”. The article even goes as far to suggest that the atrocities done in Israel on October 7th where similar to what happened in Chechnya (a nation Russia invaded during the 1999-2009).

Over the last two weeks, there has been interesting developments between Ukraine and Israel. On July 23, 2025, Israeli Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar met with Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv, and later met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and the two discussed opportunities for joint weapons production, which would strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. In case you were unaware, Israel was the first country to open a field hospital in Ukraine. They sent specialists to assist with post-traumatic care, and medical treatment to injured Ukrainians. They have also sent generators, food, water, and winter equipment. Besides the above mentioned, since the Ukrainians water infrastructure was damaged by Russian bombings, Israel plans to provide mobile water purification systems for use in eastern Ukraine. But, perhaps what may make Russian President Putin slightly irritated with the Jews is that during Operation Rising Lion, the Israeli's destroyed the Iranian drone facility that supplied drones to Russia that are used on the Ukrainian front.

It would seem that events are not lining up the way President Putin may have hoped—however, they are exactly the way the Creator of all has designed them. For it is written, Lord, God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens? And are You not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You-2 Chronicles 20:6 (NAS). Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding-Dan 2:20,21 (KJV). For by Him (Jesus) all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him-Colossians 1:16 (NAS).

Hopefully, you have observed how the hand of God has moved so artistically through time as to bring together the nations He said would be aligned together at the time of the end. Presently, we know from Scripture that the US and Russia have a war—however, that war does not start until after the saints are gathered together, an event known as the Rapture. If you have not committed your life to Jesus Christ, acknowledging Him as your Lord and Savor, repented of all known sin and made that choice to deny yourself (one of the most basic doctrines of the Bible)—you will be left to navigate through one of the worst times in the world's history. And if you live in the US or Russia, you may not have a chance to try to survive the Tribulation—you may be destroyed immediately, depending on where you live, by the nuclear explosions when the two countries exchange weaponry. At that point, it will be too late. If you have not committed your life to Jesus and are serving Him in truth now—you will be tormented in the flames of hell-ref Lk 16:19-25—then, ultimately you will be cast into the lake of fire which is the second death-Rev 20:12-15. Please consider, choose life, choose to serve Jesus.
